Zhao Li runs an opera troupe that specializes in the classical Sichuan opera. The whole ensemble lives in the dilapidated theatre where they put on their pieces. When Zhao Li learns that the building is to be demolished, she decides to keep it a secret from the others. In the remaining time, she tries to find a new place for them to live and perform in. Based on true events, the story also works as a metaphor of old traditions struggling to survive in the modern world.

Johnny Ma

The Chinese director grew up in Toronto where he also graduated from a film school. In 2014, he participated in a program for screenwriters and directors at Sundance Institute. His graduation film Grand Canal was made after his return to China and premiered at Toronto IFF. His feature debut Old Stone was presented in Berlinale's main competition.
