Alma and her two sons are murdered during an armed conflict in Guatemala. Thirty years later, criminal proceedings open against Enrique, the retired general responsible for the genocide. However, he is acquitted through mistrial, and the spirit of the vengeful La Llorona returns among the living. When Enrique starts hearing her wailing at nights, he doesn't know that his new housekeeper, Alma, has come to avenge the injustice that the trial failed to punish.

His feature debut Ixcanul captivated audiences as well as critics at numerous major international festivals, and his latest film La Llorona earned him awards at Venice IFF and San Sebastian IFF.
