The heroine of this stylised black comedy is Mary, a lonely shop assistant from a small town. The life of a woman who devoted her body and soul to the Virgin Mary does not offer much excitement. That changes on her 50th birthday when she overdoses on the hormones she takes for menopause. After years of decline, her senses and imagination finally awaken, and she begins to discover her own body. Filled with estrogen and the wonders of everyday life, the film provocatively pokes fun at those who underestimate the power of female sexuality.
The Polish theatre and film director graduated from the Katowice Film School. After a couple of award-winning student films, Spowiedź (2009) and Fidelity (2011), she shot the half-hour comedy The Dogcatcher (2015). For her daring feature debut Marygoround, she received the Best Film Award at the Gijón Film Festival in Spain and three awards at Fantasia Festival in Montreal.
