Walter was born in Angola but has been living in the United States for seventeen years. Now he is joined by his wife and teenage daughter. They were once a family, but the language and cultural differences and the years of separation have made them strangers. Their shared love of dancing can be a means of reconnecting and overcoming the emotional coldness. The Tanzanian-American director Ekwa Msangi’s debut film sensitively portrays the immigrant experience against the backdrop of a poignant family drama.
The American director and screenwriter of Tanzanian origin first came to prominence in 2016 with her ten-minute-long film Farewell Meu Amor. She later made it into a feature film, Farewell Amor, with which she competed at Sundance and won several awards for Best Debut, including the Independent Spirit Award.
