When artist Ed Ruscha hid a fake rock somewhere in the Mojave Desert in 1979, he couldn't have known that two screenwriters and a private detective would try to trace it years later. Ruscha's rock, named after the film Rocky II, inspired the Oscar-winning Pierre Bismuth (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) to a film investigation whose result is a mysterious “fake fiction” story.
