Borgman is the name of a mysterious homeless man who one day rings the doorbell of a married couple’s luxurious villa. Once inside, he begins to upend their previously happy life as irrevocably as he digs over their lawn. For the worse. But who is Borgman? A critic of social distinctions and prejudices, or a catalyst for the bad qualities and self-destructive tendencies hidden in man? This cruel, black-humoured parable invites us to examine our own unacknowledged worldviews.
The actor, director, screenwriter and graphic designer from the Netherlands founded a music theatre company with his brother Marc while studying graphic design and painting. Twenty years later, the brothers created a film company, Graniet Film. Their tragicomedy Borgman competed at Cannes and won three of the most prestigious Dutch film awards, the Golden Calf.
