A film crew arrives in Thailand to document the story of an unusual family. The aging shaman Nim is – like all the women in her family – possessed by a goddess who is able to cure villagers of their spiritual ills. Her niece and successor Mink rejects shamanism. When her body begins to undergo a spiritual and physical transformation, this ordinary documentary suddenly becomes a disconcerting found footage film. The film’s chilling atmosphere is sure to shock even calloused viewers.
This Thai director is mainly known to lovers of delectably chilling horrors. Among his most successful works are Alone (2007) and Shutter (2004). The Medium won the Bucheon Choice award when it premiered at the Fantastic Film Festival in Bucheon, South Korea, and became a South Korean commercial hit. It was also the Thai candidate for the Oscars.
