In August 2017, Swedish freelance journalist Kim Wall boarded businessman Peter Madsen's submarine to interview him. She never made it back to the mainland alive. Well-known Danish screenwriter and director Tobias Lindholm examined the infamous "submarine case" from the perspective of detective Jens Møller. In the form of a feature-length miniseries, Lindholm captured Møller's investigation to make a more general statement about the social and judicial system we live in.
Known for his scripts for several Thomas Vinterberg films, Lindholm made his directorial debut in 2010. His independent projects have won numerous awards, and A War (2015) was even nominated for an Academy Award. He has also worked for television, co-authoring the award-winning series Borgen (2010-2013). He made the six-part miniseries The Investigation for HBO, which also stars his favourite actor Pilou Asbæk.
