Facing investigation after a violent incident, police officer Daniel has been temporarily suspended from duty. He's also in love with someone he's never met in real life, which only intensifies their passionate online correspondence until, one day, his lover stops answering him. Daniels gets in his car and heads to the other side of Brazil in search of her. A deeply atmospheric, intense film about desires that transcend distances and categorisations of identity.
The Brazilian film and television director reflects on the social realities of his country and the prison system, which he himself experienced. His short films have already won awards at international festivals and the feature-length Rust (2018) was screened at Sundance and San Sebastian. Private Desert was selected as Brazil's entry for the Oscars following its Venice screening.
