Czech TV's new miniseries begins with a change of leadership at Palacký University in Olomouc. The Faculty of Arts has a new, female dean, who decides to shake things up and eradicate sexual violence. Her efforts escalate as a female student is murdered on campus. Building on the foundations of comedy and crime show genres, director Jan Hřebejk and screenwriters Petr Jarchovský and Michal Sýkora address changing gender and social roles and contribute the societal debate with this four-part miniseries.
An alum of Prague’s FAMU, where he studied screenwriting and dramaturgy, he has become a key figure in post-1989 Czech cinema, renowned for the musical Big Beat (1993), the normalisation-era comedy Cozy Dens (1999) and the Oscar-nominated drama Divided We Fall (2000). Since 2014, he has regularly been involved with the production of crime series and was nominated for the Czech Film Critics Award and the Czech Lion for Rédl (2018).
