An alum of Prague's FAMU, where he studied screenwriting and dramaturgy, he has become a key figure in post-1989 Czech cinema, renowned for the musical Big Beat (1993), the normalisation-era comedy Cozy Dens (1999), and the Oscar-nominated drama Divided We Fall (2000). Since 2014, he has regularly been involved with the production of crime series and was nominated for the Czech Film Critics Award and the Czech Lion for Rédl (2018).
