Inspired by Balzac's The Human Comedy, Jacques Rivette made a mosaic of stories of diverse characters, with their lives emerging, unfolding in parallel, and disappearing again under a layer of more plots. The twelve-hour-long film mirrors the disillusion following the 1968 protests. This special screening of the rarely seen film by a member of the French New Wave will be presented from a restored digitalized copy.
