After years of minor roles, aspiring actress Nina Wu finally gets her chance when she's cast in the lead role in a spy thriller set in the 1960s. The shooting is demanding, but both the producers and critics agree the result is excellent. Although Nina's dream has come true, she starts to succumb to a mental breakdown. She returns home, trying to focus on memories of happier times. But it slowly comes to light that the past hides events that Nina has suppressed.
The Burmese director gained recognition with his graduation film Paloma Blanca which was screened at numerous festivals. His feature debut Return to Burma was nominated for the Rotterdam IFF competition. Apart from live-action films, he also focuses on documentaries. Nina Wu was presented in the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes.
