Documentary filmmaker Mark Cousins heads out on a five-day trip to Cannes alongside the eminent British producer Jeremy Thomas. Together they reminisce upon the most successful and controversial works of his career, such as the Oscar-winning The Last Emperor (1987) and other joint projects with Bernard Bertolucci, and David Cronenberg’s Crash (1996). The central topics of this unconventional portrait are sex, politics, counterculture, the love of films, and of course also their destination – the festival at Cannes.
This documentarist from Northern Ireland has won awards at festivals worldwide – The First Movie (2009) won an award at the Berlinale, The Eyes of Orson Welles (2018) at Cannes, The Story of Looking (2021) at Seville. He has also won a European Film Award for the innovative storytelling in Women Making Films: A New Road Movie Through Cinema (2018). His document on Jeremy Thomas premiered at Cannes.
