Adam lives with his mother, who is persecuted by the system, and together they are waiting for his father, who fought in World War II and has not been seen since. Although they receive letters from him, Adam suspects someone else might be sending them. All the same Adam does not lose hope and dreams of his father’s return, or more precisely of his landing on the school playground in his Spitfire as a war hero. But in the end Adam needs just a single French film to fly on his own into a completely different world. The world of movie and music stars.

This Polish poet, painter, screenwriter, and director graduated from the Łódź film school. In the 1980s, he emigrated to the USA. He has earned fame with movies such as Wojaczek (1999) and The Mill and the Cross (2011), and his pictures are regularly nominated for the Polish Film Academy’s Eagle Award. In his new Brigitte Bardot Forever, based on his own novel, he settles accounts with his youth, childhood, and all that Poland meant to him.
