A young woman’s dreams are threatened by religious dogma in this visually striking period piece that comes across as terrifyingly contemporary. Lise’s mother is preparing to give birth in a household where life is dictated by the Bible, and superstitions are more powerful than faith in science. The spirit of a new age is now stealing into even this homestead – the mother is fighting for the right of her fourteen-year-old daughter to go to school. However, her mother’s pregnancy complications force Lise to awaken to the fragility of her future plans. This film is based on a novel by Marie Bregendahl.
