Wladislaw Strzeminski was one of the most distinctive European abstract painters. The WWI veteran lived a life as tumultuous as the first half of the 20th century with its political changes and repressions. In the final film before his passing, legendary director Andrzej Wajda returns to the issue of Polish history and brilliantly illustrates the clash of an individual with the horrors of totalitarian regimes through the life of an exceptional artist.
