Mahnaz Mohammadi (1975, Tehran) is a well-respected filmmaker and a notable activist fighting for women’s rights in Iran. Her debut, Women Without Shadows, is about homeless women living in shelters. The first live-action feature film Son-Mother won several international festival awards – including Amnesty International Febiofest Award 2020. She also drew attention with her document Travelogue, which had her interviewing passengers on a train from Tehran to Ankara, enquiring after their reasons for leaving the country. She has been jailed several times for her anti-regime activism.
At the 28th Prague IFF – Febiofest, Mahnaz Mohammadi will be a member of the Main Competition jury. She will talk about film-making and human rights during a Masterclass (21. 9., 18:22, Edison Filmhub).
