Osamu lives with his family on the outskirts of Tokyo and apart from the occasional part-time job, he makes a living as a petty thief. When he returns home with the stolen goods, he regularly sees a little girl playing alone on a balcony in the night frost. Osamu decides to take the neglected child away from her parents and look after her. But that triggers a chain of events that reveals a surprising secret about his family. This sensitive relationship drama won a Palme d'Or at Cannes.
