Sixteen-year-old Cyd lives with her depressed father in rather dismal conditions. When she gets a chance to spend the summer at her aunt's place in Chicago, she grabs it without hesitation. Over the course of a few weeks, the teenage girl and the religious woman find out they have a lot to learn from each other. This romantic drama about finding one's sexual and intellectual identity offers a detailed study of the inner lives of three powerful female characters.
