The music composer found inspiration for his directorial debut while working on a documentary about organized crime in Chicago. The story of thirteen-year-old Dayveon, whose older brother's death leads him to join the local gang, is unusually narrated with a sensitive poetic style, visually idealizing the harsh world of lonely adolescence. This intimate yet powerful film resonated at numerous festivals, including last year's Sundance.
