Bangladesh is one of the poorest countries in the world. For Nasima, an atypical hobby – surfing – becomes an escape from harsh reality. She dreams of becoming a world-famous surfer and making the sport accessible to her fellow countrywomen. Not even Bangladesh's strongly conservative society, which does not allow women to swim in public, let alone ride wild waves, can deter her. The dynamic documentary about a determined young woman deals with topics such as women’s rights and the differences between Eastern and Western cultures.
Having been appreciated as an art photographer for twenty years, she decided to add the film industry to her fields of interest. In her medium-length documentary In the Shadow of Buddha (2010), she explored the role of nuns in traditional Buddhist culture. Nasima -The Most Fearless is her first feature film. She lives in California.
