Olivia is a Filipino trans woman who works in New York as a nurse of the retired Olga and, like many other immigrants, she hopes for a Green Card. But becoming legal in the USA is a very difficult process, and when everything else fails, Olivia wants to try the last resort: to marry an American. This understated romantic drama aptly comments on the issues of immigration and transgender identity, starring the director herself, Isabel Sandoval, in the leading role.
Filipino director, screenwriter and producer living in New York. Her directing debut Señorita premiered at Locarno IFF in 2011, and her second film Aparisyon was also successful at festivals and among critics. Lingua Franca was the first film directed by a trans filmmaker in the Le Giornate degli Autori section at this year's Venice IFF, which it opened.
