After a romantic drive with a friend, Bindi discovers that her eight-month-old daughter Pinki has disappeared along with her nanny. Thus begins a dramatic journey for a young single mother through the south Indian metropolis and its surrounding slums, where one misfortune after another follows her. This gritty thriller about motherhood also serves as a social critique of gender inequality and lack of social welfare services in contemporary India.

The Indian-born filmmaker originally worked in IT before making his feature film debut Waves in 2012 after successfully graduating from the Los Angeles Film Academy. After the raw crime drama Railway Children (2016), which won an award at the Zlín Film Festival, Where is Pinki? is the third film in which the filmmaker addresses the safety of children and the status of adolescents in Indian society.
