Summer has begun in a remote fishing village in the north of Iceland. A group of friends have a last few months of unbridled childhood joy left before they have to face adulthood and its pitfalls. First love, unexpected feelings for a close friend, and a father’s alcoholism follow the four characters in this moving and lively film that sensitively captures the extraordinary and fleeting period of adolescence.
The Reykjavik native made a name for himself with his short film Whale Valley (2013), with which he graduated from the Icelandic Film School and for which he won a Special Mention at the Cannes Film Festival. His feature directorial debut Heartstone, awarded the Queer Lion at Venice, won Grand Prix at Icelandic Edda Awards in addition to the Prague IFF – Febiofest. Guðmundsson is now shooting his second film.
