Top chef Evan Funke left the gastronomy business for a while. But now he is back with a plan to open an upscale pasta restaurant in Los Angeles. Despite the ubiquitous automation, he remains faithful to manual pasta production and thus to the legacy of his Italian mentors. The fulfilling documentary presents a portrait of a man whose passion for cooking and food prepared from scratch has helped him to overcome all difficulties and setbacks – and also to find friends for life.
The Montreal native started as a producer and assistant director and has been making his own short films since 2010. For the second one, My First Movie (2011), he received an Honourable Mention for Emerging Filmmaker at the Toronto International Film Festival, and went on to make a television series. His feature début Funke premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
