A wealthy businessman decides to invest in a movie and hires a trio of leading Spanish artists to create it. But things do not work out entirely according to plan. The healthy competition between actors Félix (Antonio Banderas) and Iván (Oscar Martínez) begins to descend into hatred stemming from their age difference and their differing opinions on aesthetic values. And the extremely unorthodox approaches of the artistically distinctive director (Penélope Cruz) definitely do not help to calm the situation down.
This Argentinian directing duo has been cooperating since 1999. They have a number of successful television and movie projects behind them, both documentaries and fiction. Several have also been presented to Czech audiences (The Artist in 2008; The Distinguished Citizen in 2016). As the most entertaining film of last year’s Venice festival, Official Competition gathered great accolades at the Lido and won the Audience Award at the Vancouver festival.
