Sarah (Karen Gillan) is terminally ill but doesn't want her family to suffer the loss. How can this problem be solved in a near future? By cloning! Sarah starts training her clone to be as much like her as possible. However, she doesn't expect her miraculous recovery which puts her in a similarly hopeless situation as the one she's been trying to escape. According to the law, you cannot outlive the time limit of your clone. Therefore, Sarah has no choice but to fight her own imitation for her own life. Who is going to win?
Born in Texas, Riley Steams considered a career in music before becoming a screenwriter. As a director, he debuted with Faults (2014) followed by The Art of Self-Defense (2019). Dual was shot in Tampere, Finland and premiered at this year's Sundance festival where it was favourably received. According to Variety, the film offers "wince-inducing insights into the subjects most movies won’t touch".
