Ancient Oriya prophecies say that one day the waters of the Bay of Bengal will overflow and flood all life in Puri. In the area devastated by a cyclone and flooded villages Gunu is searching for his lost family but soon the hostile landscape drives him to the verge of desperation and death. An impressive post-apocalyptic vision of the climate crisis was shot under remarkable conditions, cast by non-actors and without any script or shooting plan whatsoever.
The native of India has already made over 70 short and documentary films which deal with climate change and current issues in India, such as insufficient infrastructure and sweatshops. Yesterday’s Past is the seventh feature film of this director and producer who draws his inspiration primarily from his own personal experience.
