This native of Lithuania started his career in front of the camera, as a teenager he portrayed one of the main characters in a popular family TV show. Then he studied at VGIK, a Moscow film school, where he graduated in 1990. His films typical features are a greyish landscape imbued with melancholy and characters struggling to escape from their uneasy past. His latest film In the Dusk competed at San Sebastian and received six nominations for Lithuanian film awards.
