In 2000, five Cubans who worked as spies in the US were condemned to sentences ranging from 15 years to life in prison. Castro’s Spies, his directorial and producing debut, premiered at the Cork IFF. Aslin made it together with Gary Lennon, producer, director, screenwriter, and author of the documentaries A Doctor’s Sword (2015), about an Irish doctor in Nagasaki, and Broken Rings (2018), about the Irish boxing team at the Rio Summer Olympics.
