The disclosure of a multi-million fraud shakes up a family firm. Ivo Róna, head of both the family and the business, takes charge of the investigation. In his pursuit of profits, this aging patriarch battles with weakened health and the distrust of his friends and family. His investigation also uncovers insincere relationships and deep loneliness. Director Olmo Omerzu has created a curt and razor-sharp analysis of a social system that spurs people towards a stubborn self-destructive desire for power and possessions.
He was born in Ljubljana, where he shot his first short films before deciding to study in the Czech Republic. His graduation work for the FAMU in Prague was 2012’s A Night Too Young, which premiered the Berlin IFF. His 2016 follow-up Family Film was presented at a number of festivals as well. His 2018 road movie Winter Flies won the directing award at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, where Bird Atlas premiered as well. The film was nominated this year for nine Czech Lion Awards.
