The 2019 Busan festival closed with Moonlit Winter, exploring the co-existence of a mother and daughter, by Korean director Lim Daehyung. After discovering a letter from her mother’s past, the daughter plans a trip to a snow-covered village on the Japanese island of Hokkaido. The pair’s journey and reconciliation against a backdrop of stunning scenery culminates with the revelation of a secret from the mother’s past.
The selection is completed by the drama Light for the Youth, which focuses on the difficult situation of young South Koreans employed at a call centre tellingly named Human Network, where their treatment borders on workplace exploitation.
