A French journalist goes deep into the Japanese forest of Nara to find a herb that can miraculously cure pain. When she meets the forest's guardian, she discovers something completely different. The film is an example of Naomi Kawase's distinctive directing style, characterised mainly by an intimate and sensitive depiction of the world around us, and the almost childlike awe experienced by her films' protagonists.
