Fourteen-year-old May lives in the Vietnamese countryside of the 19th century and is to become the third wife of a rich farmer. Gradually, she discovers her hidden desires and realises that the rules are inexorable and her options limited. This period costume drama examines the difficult position of women at that time through the teenage girl's eyes. The film visually draws from the fascinating scenery around the city of Ninh Binh.
