Waclaw is a young Polish soldier who was shot by the secret police barely a year after the end of WWII. His parents want a proper funeral for him, but the bureaucratic machinery is a lengthy and humiliating process. When they finally get hold of their son's body, they set off across the country ravaged by war to their hometown. Their travels become a metaphorical journey into the dark as well as benevolent depths of the human soul.
