Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins stars in this moving drama about an eighty-something man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Although his caring daughter tries to convince him otherwise, he refuses to admit that he can no longer take care of himself. His life in his sprawling London flat is like wandering through a labyrinth. People change shape, furniture changes location, memories merge with reality. The ingeniously constructed film about the gradual disappearance of the clues that shape one’s identity is not just a story on the screen but allows us to experience everything together with the main character.
The award-winning French writer, playwright and director is the author of more than ten plays, staged in almost fifty countries around the world. The Father, the award-winning film adaptation of which is Zeller’s directorial debut, was originally produced as a stage play as well. The author and his English translator Christopher Hampton won the Academy Award for their screenplay.
