Ema Destinnová is experiencing unprecedented success all over the world, but her heart draws her back to Prague. Despite the protests of friends and colleagues, she sets off for home in the midst of the First World War, and immediately upon her arrival in Bohemia, she is arrested by the Imperial Police on suspicion of espionage. Thus begins a private and public struggle to regain her freedom. Božidara Turzonovová plays the divine Ema in one of the most respected Czechoslovak films of the 1970s.

Jiří Krejčík

His career began in the late 1940s - so few directors have experienced so many changes with Czech film. His credits include such diverse films as the drama Higher Principle (1960) and the comedy Bedtime Story (1967). The 1979 drama Divine Ema, which told a contemporary story in a historical setting, marked Krejčík's return to the film world after years of television production.
