FEBIOFEST CULINARY CINEMA 2017

Kulinarisches Kino

Appetite for Film

In cooperation with the Berlinale, Febiofest will feature an extraordinary culinary and film experience - Culinary Cinema.

For the third time, the International Film Festival Prague – Febiofest will present film screenings accompanied by exclusive dinners named after the Berlinale’s program Culinary Cinema.

Within Culinary Cinema the organizers will once again screen films at the Cinestar Prague – Anděl cinema before later serving dinner at the Delight restaurant in the adjacent andel’s by Vienna House Prague hotel. In a single evening, visitors will take in a movie before savoring a menu inspired by the film in question and put together by a first-rate chef. On the first two evenings menus prepared by Ondřej Koráb, chef at Prague’s Le Grill restaurant, will be served, while the third evening will feature a menu by Italian chef Matteo De Carli from Casa De Carli. Both restaurants have been recognized with a mention in the Michelin Guide.

Friday, March 24th will see the screening of Frank & Lola, a noir thriller about gourmet and erotic obsession whose main hero, the Las Vegas chef Frank, falls for a mysterious woman named Lola. On Saturday, March 25th, the program will feature Noma: My Perfect Storm, which centers on chef René Redzepi, a fascinating but ragged genius who has earned his Copenhagen restaurant Noma international fame. On Sunday, March 26th, the film will be Perfect Strangers, a dynamic Italian comedy with dramatic elements; it explores an apparently innocent game among friends that, one evening, reveals lots of secrets– all the game entails is placing one’s mobile phone on the dining table during dinner and sharing every text message and incoming call.

Tickets for Culinary Cinema are on sale at Ticketportal from December 5, 2016 and the price always includes the film screening and a multi-course dinner introduced by a host. Tickets cost CZK 1,490 until December 23rd and CZK 1,790 from December 24th.

The noir thriller about gourmet, as well as erotic, obsession follows Frank, a chef in Las Vegas who falls for a mysterious young woman named Lola. A whirlwind of jealousy, ambitions, and undercurrents from the world of power scheming and violence drive Frank on a crusade for revenge and unhealthy love obsession. The stylized atmosphere of Las Vegas and Paris complements the disturbing escalation of Frank's relationship to Lola and her secrets. The spellbinding anti-hero is portrayed by Michael Shannon, a star of American indie film whose performance enchanted the critics.

Within the first league of today's culinary art, René Radzepi is nicknamed Mozart. The chef, who steered his Noma restaurant in Copenhagen to the top of international gourmet cuisine, is a genius thanks to his unique approach, interpreting a forgotten edible world into a culinary language we all understand, and simultaneously a complicated, torn personality. We follow his fall from the pedestal, dogged struggle for a third Michelin star, and his inner conflict resulting from his effort to make Noma the best restaurant in the world again. The fascinating portrait of Radzepi's mind unfolds through an adventurous journey of ingredients, human dramas, and approach to food as a piece of art. Gourmet pornography in the purest form.

“Do you know who you're eating with?” The answers to this question disrupt relationships within a group of old friends who meet for dinner. It started as an innocent game: to put their phones on the table and share each text message and incoming call. How much mustn't we know about each other to stay friends, lovers, married, parents? We all have three lives: a public, a private, and a secret one. Each new course, each new text message alert, each new glass of wine blurs these lines – with surprising, humorous and dramatic consequences for everybody sitting at the table. The dynamic dramedy, with a cast of Italian stars, shows that even those we know may be perfect strangers.
